SAN ANTONIO, Texas - June 2015 The YMCA of San Antonio has honored RGP partner Albert Garcia with the 2014 Strengthening the Community Award for his work as a volunteer coach for the Kennedy High School mock trial team.

For 139 years, the YMCA has been listening and responding to the community’s most critical social needs, ensuring that everyone has the chance to learn, grow and thrive, regardless of age, income, ability, ethnicity or faith. They focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, and incorporate core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith into all they do.

This award is special to me,” said Mr. Garcia. “But, the real thrill is in helping the students and the community.

Mr. Garcia works with students to master the skills involved in trials; from public speaking, to raising evidentiary objections, and everything in between. Many of the students in the program are from low income, minority families. Unlike other schools throughout the state, the Kennedy mock trial program is not subsidized, and students are responsible for raising the funds necessary to participate in all stages of the competition.

As a coach, Mr. Garcia volunteers his time to teach them the skills necessary to succeed, but requires the support of the community to afford the students the opportunity to showcase those skills. Albert’s work with the mock trial team is an example of his dedication to helping drive positive change; a characteristic that he brings to the office every day while assisting clients at San Antonio-based law firm Rogers Garcia Patton.

Rogers Garcia Patton, PLLC (RGP) is a full-service law firm, focused on criminal, immigration and family-based law. Since 2013, RGP has successfully fought for the rights of its clients in cases ranging from felonies to custody disputes.
